Why Choose Edible Science Vitamins? Why Us?I’m Steve Ellis, the owner and founder of Edible Science. My craft and passion is the pursuit of life lived well. I’m a nutritional researcher and living experiment in progress. Over the years I’ve fasted for days on green juices and ingested aromatic mixes of herbs and plants to learn about cleansing the body. Playing sports, and teaching yoga and bodywork, gave me an understanding of the physical side of a good life. I definitely do read research studies, but I do so first and foremost as a means to better myself. Edible Science is an outgrowth of my mission to educate and improve myself, and my own body is the first beneficiary of my work. Edible Science is an independently owned “artesianal” vitamin company. Artisans are skilled craftspeople dedicated to perfection's pursuit within a chosen field, and artesianal businesses focus on excellence not on pricing. The difference can be seen in comparing a gourmet chef to a short order cook, the soil of a family-run organic farm to the lifeless condition of a Monsanto factory field, or my work to that of the supplement industry at large. In the introduction to “Light On Yoga” by B.K.S. Iyengar, Yehudi Menuhin the great violinist states that “Reduced to our own body, our first instrument, we learn to play it, drawing from it maximum resonance and harmony.” To that end Edible Science drives itself. A Word About QualityMetaphysics aside, we are primarily a research based vitamin company. Physicians choose us because we make decisions based on hard evidence found in double blind placebo studies in peer reviewed journals. If a product truly benefits the body, then the positive effects will be substantive. The vitamin industry banks on a smoke and mirror approach that is offensive and unnecessary. Good supplements impact the way we feel now, age later, and look in the interim. They can reduce the risk of contracting a number of diseases and ailments, and provide real results, both in the long term and short term. Science and Beauty? Many vitamin customers shop by price alone. And why not when, for all they know, all vitamins are the same. When every company freely throws around platitudes about quality, but does little to actually inform consumers, what can be done? One solution: just look at the pills. Here is our wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil presented along side conventional Salmon oils. Notice the contrast between the deep orange tint of our fish oil capsules compared to the pale coloration of the other omega 3 oils. The chemicals responsible for that vibrant orange come from carotenoids found in the krill that our Salmon eat. Most fish oils on the market are derived from farmed Salmon raised in water tainted by close quarter living. This problem is exacerbated by diet of “fish meal” which contributes to farmed Salmon displaying PCB levels over 16 times that of their wild counterparts. Even fish oils that are labeled "Wild" or "Alaskan" generally prove inadequate. Common practice calls for combining a small percentage of such oil with cheaper commodity oil rendered from farmed salmon and/or other species. Once rendered, the fish oil is treated somewhat like petroleum: it is transported, un-refrigerated, in fifty gallon drums. Even though it has been documented that fatty acid molecules lose structural integrity at temperatures over 350 degrees F, most fish oils are heated to 450 degrees F in an attempt to remove contaminants. The resulting oil is extremely pure but largely ruined as a food source. In contrast, Edible Science Alaskan Sockeye oil is extracted at much lower temperatures--less than 225 degrees F. It is then maintained in sealed, refrigerated containers at all times between extraction and encapsulation. The Sockeye Salmon oil is cold filtered and encapsulated in its whole, balanced form--a fatty acid-rich matrix that includes dozens of other naturally occurring phospholipids and carotenoid molecules. Not only have I familiarized myself extensively with the extraction process which yields this amazing whole food resource, I am on a first name basis with the fishermen who catch the Wild Sockeye Salmon for our Omega 3 soft-gels. Vitamins as Food The above is just a little bit of back-story for one of the 93 supplements I have found worth advocating. There is careful reasoning and a readily available explanation behind each supplement we offer. Extraction is just the first step in creating a good supplement. The product must then be presented in a form that can be absorbed by first the body, and then the individual cell. Each cell must recognize vitamin molecules as food and decide to utilize them. The closer a vitamin molecule is to a nutrient found in a food source, the more likely it is to be accepted by the cell. Many Edible Science products are patented because their molecular structure is especially absorbable by the body. The presence of patented ingredients is telling. Patents are a hallmark of a manufacturer that has invested great time and resources into making that single product effective as proven by clinical studies. Are your vitamins obsolete? How would you know? Every week in the vitamin industry a new product is introduced to the market and new clinical studies come out daily. We spend our time buried in those studies so you don’t have to. Because we are privately owned we are incredibly nimble. We source the most cutting edge products as soon as they have proven themselves. Other companies with giant bureaucracies and huge inventories have to wait years before they can upgrade to today’s most potent supplements. Customization and personalization The future is in customization. Five years’ work and a team of brilliant programmers went into a web based system that creates unique personalized packs for each customer. The actual packaging of orders utilizes unique automation equipment to package daily AM and PM packets that are completely different from previous orders. This a la carte service sets us apart from every other supplement company in the world. Your vitamin pack is designed from an almost infinite number of choices to fit your lifestyle and health profile. And as you change, we adjust the pack to match those changes. Feel beautiful ...take vitamins Going back to yoga for an analogy: it is said that “once you have drunk pure water you can no longer drink impure water”. Feeling good, even better than good, feeling beautiful is perhaps a hard concept to grasp but very real to someone who has experienced their senses sensing, their emotions in harmony, their body vibrating with energy. Feeling beautiful is the Edible Science cosmology. It turns us on, and motivates us to search deeper for unusual and exotic products. Supplements from Edible Science are part of a revolution in health that we have just begun.
