Details:
Cordyceps is one of the most important tonifiers of Chinese herbalism. In 1993, the Chinese National Track and Field Team attributed their success in breaking three World Records in part to their us of Cordycepts. Planetary Formulas Full Spectrum Cordyceps 450 provides the same dosage of cordyceps mycelia, grown on organic brown rice from spores originally gathered in the Himalayaas. This combination insures a full spectrum of important cordyceps constituents.
During the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644AD) doctors discovered a potion that boosted energy and endurance. This potion was so rare that it was only given to the Emperor and his nobleman.
The potion was made from a wonder fungus called cordyceps sinensis. Cordyceps (pronounced KOHR-dee-seps,) is a grass-like mushroom that grows on caterpillars.
Cordyceps took the athletic world by storm in 1993, when the Chinese women’s running team smashed records in the World Track and Field Championships. The success came in 3 endurance events, the 1500, 3000, and 10,000 meter races. The difference was Cordyceps.
Countries from around the globe cried “STEROIDS!” but every one of the athletes was clean as a whistle. The team explained to the Olympic committee that they were only using a potion they developed from a caterpillar fungus!
Chinese swimmers used it in international competition in the 1990’s (Google up those miraculous records…they will astonish you!)
Tibetan Sherpas use it to better cope with hypoxia (lack of oxygen) while scaling the dizzying heights of Himalayan peaks- without the use of supplemental oxygen.
Here’s how it works.
Recent clinical research tells us the CS-4 strain increases endurance and energy from more efficient enzyme activity in red blood cells and improves lung and kidney function.
Supplementwatch.com (a watchdog of the supplement industry) says “Cordyceps could be the next Ginseng due to it’s reported effects on increasing energy levels, sex drive and athletic performance.”
The American College of Sports Medicine conducted a study and presented it at their 1999 annual meeting. It showed a cordyceps-based supplement significantly increases oxygen uptake and anaerobic threshold, which lead to improved exercise capacity and resistance to fatigue.
And in 1998 the late Ed Burke (a top exercise physiologist) conducted a study proving cordyceps improved lactate energy metabolism within the cell. In his study, 1000mg of cordyceps a day helped riders clear out lactic acid.
The proof on cordyceps means that it works at a cellular level. It boosts the factors that determine your athletic potential.
Two of the most important rules in sport for improving endurance performance are:
-1. Raise your VO2max (the hardest determiner of your endurance sport potential to enhance).
-1. Improve your lactate energy metabolism, slowing the affects of crippling lactic acid buildup.
Note: More about lactate energy metabolism in a minute.
Cordyceps has been studied for its valuable anti-aging qualities. It’s a potent antioxidant. It has also been touted to increase sex drive. And according to Supplementwatch.com, using cordyceps is not associated with any significant side effects, so it’s safe.
